Food Ministry
This is a relatively new ministry to us, developed since the end
of 2005 in response to a time of prayer in the congregation when we
sought God's guidance for how we might serve our community,
particularly its poor.
Volunteers bag food each Wednesday at 4:30 pm. The ministry is open
from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. We offer a weekly devotion at 5:30 pm each
Wednesday, before the food distribution begins. Besides food, we also give clothing and other
donated items.
A special goal of the ministry is that we minister clearly in the
name of Jesus Christ and as an expression of His care for people.
The ministry considers those who come as part of the congregation
and seeks to develop relationships as a person might with any
congregation member.
We have given out free Bibles, Portals of Prayer, other tracts, and
handouts for children. A colorful card with a Scripture passage and
an encouraging thought is placed in one of the bags each person
receives. We receive prayer requests weekly. The ministry helpers
honor those requests before the end of that day, and we offer
similar prayers on Sundays during the worship service.
You can help by:
1. Keeping the ministry in your prayers (you can become a Prayer
Partner through the Food Ministry's Internet Prayer Chain or signing
up in the narthex).
2. Filling bags, 4:30 - 6:00 pm on Wednesdays, and/or helping to
distribute the food Wednesdays from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.
3. Contributing money, marking checks "Food Ministry," and/or
contributing to the first Sunday of each month special Sunday School
offering for the Food Ministry. You may also participate in the
special Food Ministry Door Offering on the third Sunday of each
month.
4. Depositing canned or packaged food in the narthex collection box.
Cereal is one of the most expensive items to buy for the ministry.
We give out as many as 100 boxes a week, one per family.
5. Placing clean plastic bags in the box on a regular basis (we use
well over 100 each week).

This ministry is a living expression of the congregation's Mission
Statement:
Concordia Seeks the lost
And Feeds the Bread of Life to
Everyone.
